I was at Magic City last Monday and everyone (strippers especially) started going nuts when the song “All Gold Everything” came on. I had never heard the song at the time, but before the first chorus was over, I was already a fan. Needless to say, the dancers at Magic City will make you biased to just about any of their preferences, but this wasn’t one of those situations….but I digress. Later on, I downloaded the song and since I still liked it, I downloaded the album and liked that even more. I then decided to do some research.
Based on the advice of his close friends, Trinidad James started rapping earlier this year. In about a month and a half he put together a solid 10 track project, which has my nod for Mixtape of the Year, titled Don’t Be S.A.F.E. (Sensitive As F*ck Everyday). Powered by the single “All Gold Everything” he created a major buzz on Atlanta radio. From there he has went from being a guest on DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz Radio on Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 radio station, to opening up for Rick Ross at FAMU’s homecoming last weekend. He was even seen in the studio with T.I. recently.
I’ve had this album (and Kendrick Lamar’s, of course) on repeat all weekend. I could write all day on why it’s is dope, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. Below, you can listen to and/or download his mixtape. Be sure to check out his interview from the good folks over at Greedmont Park. Enjoy.
…and yes, he’s really from Trinidad.
